Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray

Sony Ericsson's Android line continues to expand with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray. Effectively a cut-down version of the Xperia Arc, the Xperia Ray is a more compact device that still retains many of the features of its larger sibling.
The most obvious difference between the Ray and the Arc is the size of the screen. On the Ray, the display is just 3.3" compared to 4.2" on the Arc, but the resolution is an identical 480 x 852 pixels.

On the back is an 8.1 megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording and a photo light, and on the front is a secondary VGA resolution camera for video calling. The camera supports all the usual features such as geo-tagging and autofocus plus several other additions.

Inside is a 1GHz processor coupled with 512MB of RAM, which should be plenty for the Android 2.3 operating system. There's also a microSD slot (with a 4GB card in the standard sales package), Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, 3.5G support and a 3.5mm audio socket and all the usual stuff you'd find on an Android phone.

The Xperia Ray also has an FM radio, it has Sony Ericsson's enhanced media player, comes with Wisepilot turn-by-turn navigation and it has access to thousands of applications from the Android Market.
The size is the unique selling proposition, placing the Xperia Ray somewhere in the large gap between the Xperia Arc and Xperia Mini. Despite the relatively compact size, you can be sure that the Xperia Ray is a fully-featured and very capable Android device.

There's a 1500 mAh battery which is quoted as giving up to 7 hours talktime and 18 days standby time on 3G, and the entire package weighs exactly 100 grams which is pretty lightweight for a handset such as this.

Sony Ericsson say that the Xperia Ray should be available during Q3 2011 but gave no guidance on pricing.

HTC EVO 3D Europe

We first saw a CDMA version of the HTC EVO 3D back in March, bound for the US Sprint network. HTC had obviously put a lot of work into their first 3D device, so it seemed to be quite likely that a European device would be available soon.. and indeed it is, the HTC EVO 3D will be available across much of Europe from July onwards.
The headline with the EVO 3D is, of course, the display which is a large 4.3" qHD panel with glasses-free 3D. Whether or not there is a market for this type of device is questionable, but HTC's commitment to 3D is admirable.

Running 3D on a big screen like this requires a lot of processing power, and the HTC EVO 3D does not disappoint with a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU coupled with a large 1GB of RAM. The EVO 3D runs the latest version of Android, version 2.3. There's 1GB of internal flash memory, expandable through the EVO 3D's microSD port.

On the back is a 3D camera that can take 2 megapixel 3D images and 5 megapixel 2D stills photos, along with 3D and 2D video capture in 720p HD. We think that the 3D video capture capabilities may be even more appealing to many customers than the HTC EVO 3D 3D screen, as the EVO 3D will be an relatively inexpensive way to make their own 3D content. On the front of the EVO 3D is a 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling.
This is a big device, weighing 170 grams and measuring 126 x 52 x 12mm. Inside is a very large 1730 mAh battery that gives over 7 hours talktime and 17 days standby time on 3G.

Unlike the original EVO 3D, this is a GSM / HSPA smartphone suitable for European networks. The HTC EVO 3D has quad-band GSM and supports UMTS 900 / 2100, plus 802.11 b, g and n WiFi. Bluetooth 3.0 and USB connectivity is supported, and the EVO 3D also comes with GPS and DLNA support.

The EVO 3D will easily be one of the most powerful Android handsets you can buy when it hits the market from next month. HTC didn't give any guidance on price, but we would expect the HTC EVO 3D to retail for somewhere in the region of €700 at launch.

LG Optimus Net (LG P690)

The LG Optimus Net is an Android smartphone that sits near the bottom of LG's Optimus range when it comes to features.
Featuring a 3.2" 320 x 480 pixel display, a 3 megapixel camera and an 800 MHz CPU, the Optimus Net isn't a challenger for LG's high-end devices, but with a decent 512MB of internal memory and the latest version of Android, then the Optimus Net certainly looks like it could be useful.

It has the features of every other Android phone on the market, so there's GPS, WiFi and 3.5G support plus a good range of applications pre-installed and downloadable from the market. There is also an optional NFC variant of the Optimus Net if you are in to that sort of thing.

The Optimus Net is going to sell on cost rather than features, and we would expect it to retail for roughly the same as the HTC Wildfire S, which retails for about €250 including tax.

LG say that the Optimus Net should be available during the summer in Europe in black and white colour schemes.

Samsung Android Phones Sales Beat Apple and Nokia

Latest Samsung Smartphones thumb Samsung Android Phones Sales Beat Apple and NokiaSamsung Electronics & Co. is said to have surpassed Nokia and Apple in terms of handset sales, in the recent quarter.

It is estimated that Samsung has sold upto 21 million smartphones in the said period whereas Apple is lagging with 20.3 million iPhone sales. Nokia seems to be left far behind with 16.7 million sales, a researcher at analyst company said.

Samsung which is considered as second largest handset maker in the industry got this boost from Google’s miracle – Android. Topping the list, Samsung’s galaxy phones are helping it a lot in giving a tough competition to its rival, Apple.

It is expected that Samsung will share the market with industry’s largest handset maker – Nokia, this year. Samsung will have an approximate market share of 20%, closing the gap with Nokia’s 26%.

On the other hand, Apple is still able to give competition with its iPhone 5 (or iPhone 4S may be) which is expected to be released, later this year.

While Samsung Galaxy S II has already made its mark by having more than 3 million sales in less than two months after it’s launch. Keeping in view these figures, Samsung already has sold 30+ Galaxy S II phone per minute, worldwide.
It merits mentioning here that Samsung is expected to double its handset sales (including those which are not smartphone) by this year.

Google+ Gets 20 Million Members in Less than a Month

ComScore – a web-traffic watcher company has revealed that Google Plus has witnessed more than 20 million unique visitors in less than a month.

It is three weeks or so since Google launched its social networking platform which was welcomed with both hands by users.

It is said that Google+ has shown such a steep rising curve which no product had ever shown so far. Despite of the fact that registration on Google+ is still invitation based, it has managed to get 20 million users in three weeks after its launch.

Also the search-giant Google has not completely launched its product to all its customers – as one can imagine, Google still has a potential of one billion unique visitors on its search engine, which is somehow unused at the moment.

Distributing the overall usage worldwide, USA tops the list with more than 5 million users while India comes second in the list with around 2.85 million Google+ users.

Integration with Gmail, Picasa and above all, the new toolbar (sandbar) above Google pages has given a new boost to Google Plus’s popularity.

Difference between HTTP ans HTTPS????

HTTP stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol, which is just a fancy way of saying it's a protocol (a language, in a manner of speaking) for information to be passed back and forth between web servers and clients.

You really don't need to know what it all stands for; the important thing is the letter S which makes the difference between HTTP and HTTPS. The S (big surprise) stands for "Secure". You probably didn't need me to tell you that, because you already knew it had something to do with security.

If you visit a website or webpage, and look at the address in the web browser, it will likely begin with the following: http://. This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular 'unsecure' language. In other words, it is possible for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the website. If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site.

This is why you never ever ever enter your credit card number in an http website!

But if the web address begins with https://, that basically means your computer is talking to the website in a secure code that no one can eavesdrop on.

You understand why this is so important, right? If a website ever asks you to enter your credit card information, you should automatically look to see if the web address begins with https://. If it doesn't, there's no way you're going to enter sensitive information like a credit card number!

It should be pointed out that just because a website has that magic "S" in its address, that does not mean it is wise to do business with them; even scam artists can have https sites! It simply means that no outsiders can eavesdrop on your conversation...doesn't mean you should be having the conversation in the first place. Only do business with reputable firms, or firms you have thoroughly checked out!

Microsoft going to End Support for Windows XP by 2014

Microsft’s Chief Executive, Steve Ballmer revealed that company has sold some 400 million windows 7 license worldwide. Even then almost one half to two third of world’s personal computers are using Windows XP – which Microsoft is planning to not to support after 2014.

Ballmer told this at Worldwide Partner Conference in Los Angles.

Support for Microsoft XP will end on April 8, 2014 and  security patches and hotfixes for all versions of Windows XP will no longer be available after this date.

In a blog post, Microsoft said:

Windows XP had an amazing run and millions of PC users are grateful for it. But it’s time to move on. Two reasons:

    1) Extended support for Windows XP is running out in less than 1000 days

    2) there’s an OS out there that’s much better than Windows XP.

Microsoft said that there are seven things that will help you move to Windows 7 and one of them includes Download of Windows 7 Enterprise 90-day Trial.

Windows 7 which was released in October 2009 has shown rapid increase in density as compared to windows XP in the recent years. According to data from Net Applications, currently almost 27% of worldwide PCs are using windows 7.

Microsoft has also claimed that Internet Explorer 9 is now “the most popular modern browser running on Windows 7 PCs in the US”. Company said that 17% of Windows 7 PCs worldwide are using internet explorer 9.

Talking about windows 8, Ballmer said that it is expected in late 2012 and furthermore he bared that windows 8 will be “a true reimagining of Windows PCs and the dawning of Windows slates.”

Mango Windows Phone 7 release

Mango By Windows
Microsoft execs previewed the next version of Windows Phone 7, a release known as “Mango,” and the big theme is setting up the first Nokia production phones powered by the software giant.

Gallery: Microsoft goes deeper inside Windows 7

Sure, Microsoft talked about 500 new features, but as Mary Jo Foley noted we only got a peek at a select few. But if you read between the lines it’s clear that Mango is a set-up for Microsoft’s Nokia partnership. To wit:

    * Mango phones will be available in the fall. Nokia Windows Phone 7 devices are expected late this year.
    * Microsoft noted that Mango would support multiple languages. How many? Try Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Swedish. It just so happens that Nokia is strong in most of those regions with those languages.
    * New Windows Phone Marketplaces will open up around the world and China, Israel and Luxembourg will take app submission in those locales today.

Despite all the talk about better message threading, groups, social network and app integration, browsing tools and hands-free messaging, Microsoft is positioning Windows Phone 7 for a global game. It’s quite possible that Windows Phone 7 and Nokia won’t gain traction in the U.S.

And that may be ok. It’s a big smartphone powered world. Windows Phone 7 and Nokia could do fine without breaking much ground in the U.S.

iPhone 5 Release Date

iphone 5
iPhone 5 Release Date might be most buzzing topic among tech geeks.  Each day is rising with a new rumor or a speculative guess about iPhone 5 launch date. CNET UK, a top internet review site for electronics, has grabbed attention of the techies posting update on iPhone 5 release date.

According to CNET UK, iPhone 5 release date is likely to be September 7th 2011. We guess this is the first exact date prediction about launch of the next generation iPhone.

What is the reason behind releasing iPhone 5 in September?

Apple recently announced iOS 5 at WWDC 2011 which is packed with new cool features, including Android’s drop-down menu style notification.  iOS 5 will be released in the autumn, more specifically in  September. Furthermore, Apple brings new generation iPods and iPod Touches in September. However, according to CNET UK, iPods are not enough glamorous to bring iOS 5 into the world. iOS 5 and iPhone 5 both will be the perfect platforms for each other.

That is the reason why we are expecting to see iPhone 5 release with iOS 5, in the autumn.  We already assumed that Apple doesn’t want to release iPhone 5 until iOS 5 is completely ready which is somewhat similar to CNET UK’s prediction. Here is what we predicted.

Why CNET UK has assumed Wednesday 7 September 2011 as the iPhone 5 launch date? Since 2005, Apple has been launching iPods in September on the first Wednesday after Labor Day. There were some exceptions in the past, though the Wednesday has proven Apple’s a regular favorite day.

Well, what do you think about this prediction? Do you believe iPhone 5 will be released on 7th September 2011? We would like to hear from you in below comment box!
